![]() ![]() In this sense, SUMO includes capabilities for re-routing vehicles dynamically. If vehicles are equipped with a re-routing device, they can change their current routes, taking into account the road network’s current state. This behavior is emulated in SUMO utilizing an additional feature, called re-routing device. In this context, most drivers are familiarized with the road network and, therefore, can decide to try an alternative path during their trips. Besides, drivers can be informed through the vehicular network about the road network’s events during their trips. Most modern vehicles are equipped with real-time navigation services allowing drivers to better use the available road capacity. SUMO is an open-source space-continuous road traffic simulator commonly used for testing vehicular networks and ITS applications. In this regard, a wide-spread road traffic simulator is Simulation of Urban MObility (SUMO) . Regarding this last, we can differentiate two main groups: (i) vehicles’ traces defined by hand, mostly used when evaluating simple map topologies (e.g., highway, Manhattan) and (ii) vehicles’ traces defined using traffic demand generation tools , used with large size maps or complex topologies (e.g., city map). The main elements in order to generate the traffic simulation are (i) the network data consisting on roads and intersections, a.k.a edges and junctions (ii) traffic infrastructure containing traffic lights elements and logic (iii) vehicles’ type consisting on a description of vehicle’s characteristics (e.g., gas/diesel, passenger/bus) and (iv) vehicles’ traces that vehicles will follow during the simulation (e.g., routes, trips, flows). In this context, jointly considering realistic mobility models and traffic demand generation are keys to obtain accurate results when evaluating vehicular networks. Hereabouts, wireless system researchers put their effort into the network modeling without considering the effect of the traffic during the simulation. Here, realistic mobility models allows simulators to interact with obstacles along the route, traffic/weather conditions, and drivers behavior. Traffic simulators implement the traffic-related elements (e.g., road network, traffic demand, mobility models) (e.g., VISSIM, MATSim, SUMO, TranSims). Network simulators implement the stack of protocols for vehicular communications (e.g., Veins following the IEEE WAVE specification, Artery following the ETSI ITS-G5 specification). In this regard, the simulation of vehicular communications usually involves the coupling of a network simulator and a traffic simulator. Particularly, while the deployment of real test scenarios is feasible in most cases (e.g., sensor networks), simulation techniques are commonly used to evaluate vehicular networks and new emerging services for intelligent transportation systems (ITS). Nowadays, simulation is the main approach that researchers follow to assess the performance of wireless networks. Additionally, we propose an automatized tool that facilitates researchers the generation of synthetic traffic based on real data. Our results provide insights into the behavior of the vehicle’s mobility and the nodes’ connectivity of SUMO demand generation tools. Lastly, we analyze the node’s connectivity using well-known graph metrics. Then, we analyze the available tools in terms of resources usage (CPU, RAM, disk). This last feature allow cars to re-compute their routes in front of congestion situations. Using the data traffic in the district of Gracia in Barcelona (Spain), we analyze the generated traffic demand in terms of traffic measures: (i) traffic intensity, (ii) trip time/distance, (iii) emissions, and (iv) re-routing capabilities. This paper provides a thorough analysis of the influence of using the different SUMO’s traffic demand generation tools on mobility and node connectivity. In this context, vehicular traces affect vehicles’ signal strengths, radio interference, and channel occupancy. When assessing VANETs, it is crucial to use realistic mobility models and traffic demand to produce meaningful results. Mainly, vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) are a particular type of mobile ad hoc networks that raise specific technical challenges. Simulations are the traditional approach used by the research community to evaluate mobile ad hoc networks. ![]() ![]() ![]() You can even define custom tags too!Įxiftool does more than just read tags though. You can find the full list of file and metadata types that exiftool supports here.Įxiftool is a tool with an enormous array of features able to work with over 23,000 tags over 130 different groups. Since then, exiftool has become the go-to tool for working with metadata at the command line due to the vast array of file formats and types of metadata it supports. You’ll see that tags and exiftool go hand in hand! What is exiftool?Įxiftool is a command-line utility, technically a Perl library written by Phil Harvey first released in 2003. You can find a full list of all tag groups in the exiftool documentation. Groups are also categorized into one of seven families depending on what information is defined in each group. These groups can have different lists of tags and set how those tags are defined within the group. Tags are classified into groups, like DICOM and EXIF. The Flash example described above fits in with the EXIF standard. Similarly, the EXIF standard dictates metadata schemas for classifying images and sounds recorded by digital cameras. If tag holding a medical diagnosis embedded in an x-ray image got changed accidentally, that’d be bad. You can add some custom tags not defined by the DICOM or EXIF standard in exiftool and change many tags but not all. The DICOM standard dictates that the image supports tags like the attending physician’s name, procedure date, and exposure length. These standards define tag “schemas” that dictate the tags assigned to specific filesįor example, metadata on an x-ray image taken at a hospital or medical center will follow the DICOM standard. For example, two of these standards are Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine ( DICOM) and Exchangeable image file format (EXIF). Having this standard set of values for tags allows exiftool users to know what values are available for specific tags. This Flash tag example has a defined set of values it can have 27 to be exact. The Flash tag may then have a date value that indicates when the picture was taken. When you do, your phone may store the picture and embed a metadata tag in the picture named Flash. For example, perhaps you take a picture with your phone. Tags are key-value pairs embedded into files that store information about that file. Tags are extremely important to understand as nearly everything in exiftool comes back to metadata tags in some way. Metadata is stored in these files as metadata tags or just tags. Metadata is information embedded into documents and media that are typically hidden from view. Let’s get started! ![]() For my relays, this was blue and yellow (I'm afraid I don't have the relays present to check the numbered markings). Try connecting your 12V PSU to the relays two power leads such that you can hear it click. As for the relays, it is possible that the wiring harnesses are not color coded the same even if your purchased the same relay set. You'll want to do this to set the limits once your shades are up, but in the meantime it at least lets you know power is working. If after a few seconds, the motor sounds three beeps, it will go into a programming mode where you can set the limits of the rotation. If you still cant get any life out of the motor, try pressing and holding the set button hidden in the non-rotating side of the motor friction ring. The Rollertroll motors have an internal rotation counter and if you are at the end of the rotation, reversing power should get the motor to at least show some signs of life.If it doesnt, try reversing the connection to the motor and the power supply.I would try connecting the motor directly to one of the 12V PSUs to see if it turns normally without the complication of the relays.Try each component individually: make sure the motor is powered by the 12V PSU on its own and make sure the relay is powered by the 12V PSU on its own. There is an error in the digram: the white wire on my wire harness is normally open, not normally closed.I don't have a direct answer for you but I do have a few suggestions: I have to admit, this was the most complicated part of the endeavor. I'm sorry to hear that you're having difficulty with the wiring. Keep length in mind though and always test before you commit anything to drywall. Ethernet is cheap, easy to run and should be more than adequate for powering your motors. With one ethernet cable, you can pass power to four motors. If you are placing multiple motors near each other in a bank of windows, you might consider using ethernet to gang together different motors. The last thing you want is for your shade to somehow catch the wires and rip them out of the motor. Route the two motor wires through the mourning bracket and out of the way of any rotations. Make sure your mounting is level or your shades won't hang properly. If your distances are longer, RollerTrol suggests metal electrical conduit. I found enough inconsistency that I had to try several different pipes each time. I would probably take a motor mount to your home center and test the fit though. As for tubing, if your window distances are shorter (4' or less), SCH40 PVC pipe works rather well. The RollerTrol motors ship with mounting brackets that screw to your window frame and mount via a small metal flange. Mounting Mounting the motor is rather straightforward. I used automotive relays as they were easy to wire but certainly overkill. Any 12V SPDT relay should be more than adequate. 12V DC 2A Power Supply Relays Because we will be wiring both supplies to the motor at the same time, we need a way to break the circuit. I happen to have a bunch of 12V adapters around, so we're going to just use what is on hand. More advanced hobbyists can probably wire up a polarity reversing switch that only needs one supply. My solution will require two supplies for each shade. INSTEON Micro Module Power Supply Any 12V DC, 2A power supply will do. INSTEON does offer a dry-contact relay module, the I/O Linc, but you would need two I/O Lincs to control a single shade (one to control up, the other to control down). ![]() The only cumbersome thing is that the relays operate at 120V AC, not the 12V DC we need for the motors. ![]() One relay responds to an UP command, the other to the DOWN command. INSTEON recently released a new module, the Micro Open/Close controller which is essentially a dual-relay module. DC Motors Controller My home is controlled with INSTEON so, naturally, I have come to an INSTEON automation solution. They even have an included rotation counter so that the up and down limit on your shade is managed by the motor itself. The motors require 2A 12V DC power and can be reversed just by changing polarity. What you will need: Motors Tubular motors from are affordable (at least in the world of tubular motors for shades), relatively quiet and easy to work with. ![]() ![]() ![]() Once that happens it means your car is working fine. However, bear it in mind that everytime you turn on your car ignition, your vehicle does a self-check and would normally lit the brake warning light but only for a few seconds. What you should do: As you know, your handbrake works to put your vehicle to a stop and in contact with the road safely. It could also mean that your brake fluid is low or your hand brake is faulty. What does it mean? The glowing of the brake warning light might indicate that your handbrake is engaged. However, to avoid further damages, ensure you take your car to the mechanic. Chances are your car has lost a lot of water and would need a top up. After your car’s temperature is down, open its hood and check the water level. What you should do: When the engine temperature warning light pops up and remains, the best decision is to quickly pull over and allow your vehicle to cool down. What does it mean? The glowing of this symbol means that your car coolant isn’t working properly and your engine is overheating. This is because it’s difficult to tell if the reason for the beep is a mild situation or a critical problem which could result in engine failure. However, the best course of action would be to pull over, off your car engine, and call your mechanic immediately. ![]() What you should do: The reason for the oil pressure light beep could be as a result of low engine oil or a serious engine malfunction. Following Sasumo, you find him staring down a bear which appears to be fast asleep (I'm not quite sure why the rhythmic expansion of its snot bubble conveys this, but it does), standing on top of what appears to be a silvery beach ball. This sort of stuff underlines the game's sense of humour, really - gentle and Zelda-esque. Soon you run into a warrior chap called Sasumo, who shrugs off your offers of help before running off to hide-WHOOPS-meant-to-say-train in his cave. So you journey a bit further, facing off against plants that lob exploding seeds at you - and defeating them by gripping R1 as they launch their projectiles, then slashing them in mid-air with the brush to send them back, stun the plant and let you pass by untroubled. This area is doing a better job of restraining the resident deity, says Issun, so beating up the thugs at the cave entrance won't be enough to bring life back to the compost-coloured hillside. Battles are real-time, but each one confines you to a circle area wreathed in flame.Īs with last year's demo, we're still firmly in what feels like tutorial-land, with Issun, who rides around with you explaining story details and whatnot, imparting all sorts of information as you go along. Draw a slash-line across a stunned enemy to strike him, do the same to a boulder or a tree to carve it asunder, and twirl it in a circle on the horizon to draw the sun - providing that's pertinent to the puzzle. It works like this: when you've smacked an enemy enough for the game to highlight him with a red circle, or you've found something to paint, you hold R1, which pauses the action and lets you view it a bit like a sketch on canvas, at which point you use the analogue stick to manoeuvre your celestial paintbrush and square to daub the canvas with it. But it'll be back at E3 this year and we've played the new section, in which wolf god Amaterasu continues her quest to regain the 13 powers of the mythological celestial brush, helps a duff warrior sort out an unwelcome cave-squatter, and eventually uses a beach ball to grow a tree.įor the benefit of those who missed out last year and can't be bothered to read up, Okami sees Amaterasu navigating various dreamy locations fighting bad guys and solving puzzles - all with the help of the aforementioned celestial brush, which can be used to cut through rocks and wooden barricades, smack enemies and draw in missing scenic details. Our Capcom guide reckons that Okami could clock in at around 60 hours in total, and its size is one of the reasons we haven't heard much about it since last E3 when we said it was the most beautiful PS2 game since ICO (that's arguably still true, and there's a timeless air to the game's graphics that means they still impress just as much a year later playing it's like swimming through an oil painting). Inkpots for your brush can be picked up by smashing jugs. Not being the average Japanese teenager (or indeed any sort of teenager), I'm reliant on the views of EG's resident Japanophile Rob Fahey to support that, but I am - having spent time with Okami last May and during a recent round-up of Capcom's new E3 line-up at its UK offices - still keen to see what the end result looks like. The latter's obviously a light-hearted way of summing up Okami, which appears to be aimed at compiling every piece of Japanese mythology Clover Studio can get its hands on in a manner that the average Japanese teenager will enjoy. The second part basically takes drugs all the time and occasionally does a game about a schizophrenic assassin who has sex with nurses, or a wolf who is actually a god and uses a paintbrush to cut people in half in heaven in between listening to a garrulous flea ramble on about mice with swords. The first part makes all the obvious stuff - Resident Evil, Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and all the other breadwinners. In my head, Capcom's divided into two parts these days. ![]() ![]() ![]()
